My opinion towards abortion has always been clear, it is an unnatural and cruel thing to do. When I was young, I heard about abortion. However, during that time, I do not have much feeling about it, because I only thinking it as a choice to give up a baby. It is a shame to say that my own mother has been experienced abortion twice, and I am not proud of it that I was the one who born to the world.
When I truly understand how abortion works, it shocks me. According to Wikipedea, abortion is the termination of pregnancy by the removal or expulsion from the uterus of a fetus or embryo prior viability. When I was in middle school, I saw a documentary show about abortion, and I first time know the procedure. Now people most of time use the sort of wave to remove the fetus, but back in years ago, I am pretty sure, they use huge scissor or knife which is pretty much like killing a little life. The process of abortion is not only harmful to people’s body, and it is also a morally wrong thing to do.
Media in this case is more like a neutral character in the development of abortion. I understand that no matter how people use birth control like condom or birth control pill, there is still tiny chance that accident may happen, people still have chance getting pregnant surprisingly. However, that is only tiny chance, the reason why abortion is an “upcoming business”, my opinion is that people cant control their lust and be responsible. This is where media come in. The TV shows and drama shows have never stop showing us how “passionate” the lust is, the internet is also out of control, like the other world full of filthy stuff. When these things exist for some reason, it also gives influence on people’s thoughts. It is not only about teenagers who are horny all the time, and too childish to know what is birth control. There are also adults who are careless and accidentally get pregnant when they are not ready for one. Maybe people should turn down their idea of “YOLO” for once, and decide to use a condom or avoiding have sex during certain period if they are not ready for one.
Media is complex here, while certain people try to use shows to tell people how wrong abortion is, there is plot of how accident pregnancy destroy people’s life in drama. However, shows like “Gossip Girl”, “Desperate housewives” and more and more. These shows contain so many sex scenes that basically can be a mattress commercial. People have to constantly choose between having fun and being responsible. Sadly, most of the time, they choose have fun, with idea “you only live once”” just this time”. Then they went for abortion, what did the baby done wrong to deserve that?
This problem can not be solved by restriction from law, it is because abortion is somehow connected with the growth of population. When China use “one child” policy to restrict couple to only have one child, that is when my mom go for abortion twice, because they have to. If they have restriction on abortion, they will again just keep popping out babies like a baby production machine. As the result, I really think that we should just be responsible to everything we do –like birth control.
